Expertise
An arborist is a specialist in the care of individual trees. Arborists are knowledgeable about the needs of trees and are trained and equipped to provide proper care.
Hiring an arborist is a decision that should not be taken lightly.
Why hire an arborist
Proper tree care is an investment that can lead to substantial returns. Well-cared-for trees are attractive and can add considerable value to your property. Poorly maintained trees can be a significant liability.
Pruning or removing trees, especially large trees, can be dangerous work. Tree work should be done only by those trained and equipped to work safely in trees.
Site visits
A site visit will be arranged at your convenience to meet in person to discuss your queries and proposed works. Throughout the whole process you can rest assured that you will only deal with one person, the company director Chris Swinscoe. At the site visit we can discuss various techniques for pruning and management of your trees.
Protected trees
Local councils can make orders to protect trees and hedges under certain circumstances.
It is CMS Tree Services policy to always check with the council prior to any works. To check for Tree Preservation Orders present on site, or to see whether the site is in a conservation area. We will not proceed with any work until authorisation is given.
To work on trees that are protected an application to work on the tree or tree's must be submitted to the council.
We at CMS Tree Services can do this on the customers behalf once we receive email acceptance of accepted quote. We liaise with all local councils on a regular basis and this can speed up the process for you and your tree's.
The timescale for an application for works on protected trees is 8 weeks from making the application to the council. This gives the tree officer time to come out to site and assess the tree and or tree's in their surroundings to make a decision on the works.
You have a period of 2 years in which to complete the works you are granted permission for. If this time period lapses you must re apply for permission.

Planning
We can obtain all relevant permissions if your work involves a Tree Preservation Order or lies within a Conservation Area, all of which can be found in the certification link.
We can also provide risk assessments and method statements on request.
Trees in conservation areas
If you are in a conservation area there certain things to be aware of. Any tree which has a stem / trunk diameter of over 3” / 75mm at 1.5m from ground level is automatically protected within the conservation area rules for trees. (This even applies to a tree which you may have planted and it has grown over the specified size above)
A section 211 notice has to be filed with the council to notify of intent of work to trees within a conservation area. We at CMS Tree Services can do this on the customers behalf once we receive email acceptance of accepted quote. We liaise with all local councils on a regular basis and this can speed up the process for you and your tree's.
The timescale on a section 211 notification is 6 weeks. This gives the tree officer time to come out to site and assess the tree and or trees in their surroundings to make a decision on the works.
You have a period of 2 years in which to complete the works you are granted permission for. If this time period lapses you must re apply for permission.
Hedges are not covered under the conservation area rules.
